Amazon – from an online bookstore to an e-commerce giant

Amazon was created on July 5, 1994 by Jeffrey Preston Bezos; operating as an online bookstore. When it comes to the company’s products, the list can be quite overwhelming, as the platform hosts millions of products – from furniture and jewelry, to food and consumer electronics. Furthermore, Amazon has numerous products and services of its own, such as Amazon Prime, Kindle, and Alexa. Its services are equally diverse: through its AWS subsidiary, it provides global sales of compute, storage, database and it is also considered the largest provider of cloud infrastructure (IaaS and PaaS). In 2016, AWS produced a 25% operating margin in 2016 and experts think that this business segment alone was worth $150 billion during the span of the same year.
