New Weekend “Mystery Stock” Game

Written by Mark Berger

We’re about to launch a new game designed to keep Survivors engaged during the long weekend when stock markets are closed.

It’s the “Mystery Stock” game! Every Friday after the market closes, we’ll post in the Forums one or two clues about a “mystery” stock. On Saturday, we’ll post one or two more clues about this stock. On Sunday, we will provide one or two last clues about this mystery stock.

The first person to email the WSS Community Manager (community at wallstreetsurvivor dot com) the correct name of the stock, their survivor name and their T-shirt size, will win a WSS T-shirt. All other correct entries received before Monday at 9:30AM will be entered into a random drawing for 50,000 Loyalty Points, 1 month of free Real-time Quotes and a Bull/Bear puppet.

The first game will start at 4:30PM on Friday, February 6th in the forums, here. Please let us know how you like the “Mystery Stock” game by leaving a comment below.

Next Tick Game

Written by Mark Berger

We’re rolling out a new game called the “Next Tick” game.

Here’s how it works:

1) Go to: http://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/Private/Games/NextTick.aspx

2) You’ll see a ticker symbol, its last price (delayed by 15-20 min), and a chart.

3) Guess if this stock will go up or down in the next minute

4) If you’re right, you win 50 Loyalty Points. If you’re wrong, you lose 50 L.P.

There is no limit to the number of times you can play this game during the day! The game is open from 10AM to 4PM every trading day.

Enjoy, and please let us know how you like the game!

Free Portfolio Resets Coming!

Written by Mark Berger

Soon, we are going to have free Portfolio resets available for anyone who wants them.

This is driven by the need to limit the Weekly prizes to Survivors who only have portfolios with a value greater than $50,000.

So, to make it fair for all Survivors, you will will be able to reset your Portfolio for free, if you wish.

Look for this offer at the top of the Dashboard.

New Contest Features Monthly Prizes and Loyalty Prize

Written by Mark Berger

As we Traders and Investors slog through this tough Bear market (Dow down +20%), many Survivors are already looking forward to the start of the next contest which is scheduled to begin on Monday September 1st.

We are planning several changes based upon user feedback and our desire to make the game easier and more fun to play:

  1. Your Contest Portfolio will NOT GET ERASED! You will keep all your current stock positions and your portfolio value. If you don’t like your portfolio value, you can always Reset back to $100,000.
  2. Overall Prizes will be given Weekly and Monthly, in addition to the Daily random prizes. We will give out 10 prizes to best Investors and the best Traders every month.
  3. The Weekly and Monthly prizes will be calculated based upon percentage return rather than overall portfolio value ranking.
  4. There is a new Loyalty Grand prize given to the Survivor who racks up the most Loyalty Points every Month.

We are in the midst of finalizing all the details, but as always, let us know what you think!

Reset (Your Portfolio) Button

Written by Mark Berger
Portfolio Reset button

We’ve had a lot of requests from Survivors who would like to reset their Portfolios and get back to $100,000.

So, we’ve come up with a handy-dandy RESET button that we hope to roll out in June when we open our new Store. We’re thinking that the first reset would be free, like a Mulligan in golf, and all future resets would be priced around $9.95. There would be no limit to the number of resets available to Survivors.

Buddy Lists

Buddy Lists

Survivors often mention in the Forums how meeting other people has been one of the best parts of playing the game. Now, we’re going to make it even easier to stay find and stay connected to your Survivor friends.

Introducing Buddy Lists! Now, you can keep a list of your Survivor friends and track their portfolio performance on the Leaderboard! See the preview image to the left as an example of how a Buddy List would be incorporated into the Dashboard.

Another neat feature we included is when you invite your friends to play the game and when they join, they are automatically added to your Buddy list! How great is that?

Do you Feel like you’re Swimming with Sharks?

Written by Mark Berger

Shark picWe’ve noticed that many Survivors feel like they can’t win prizes* and compete with our top players like GoMaxGo and Dojimon. We see comments like, “I can’t ever beat those sharks.” That may be true, but we’re thinking of ways to make the game experience better for everyone.

So, we’re toying with the idea of breaking the contest into groups based upon past performance in the Permanent Portfolio. It would go something like this: after having played the game for 30 days, everyone would get a handicap (like in golf) and be placed into a playing group, or league, of their relative peers. That way, you would be competing for prizes against Survivors of relatively the same skill level. And the contest would never end. Prizes would be awarded on a regular basis like Monthly and Weekly.

Of course, not all groups, or leagues, would be created equally. The League for GoMaxGo and Survivor would be the top league and they would compete for the biggest prizes. But anyone, with determination and learning, could eventually move up into the top league where the big boys play.

How does that sound, Survivors?

*In the last Survivor survey, an overwhelming majority of Survivors (89%) said they preferred more prizes of lesser value rather than fewer prizes of greater value.
