Price Feed Issues Create Negative Portfolios
We have experienced several 30-60 minute outtages from our stock price feed vendor, Thomson Financial. For the last year, they have provided our Survivors with excellent price quotes, but for some reason it is breaking down.
This problem causes your entire portfolio to suddenly show a negative number (which is impossible) and for all your open positions to show a price of $0.00.
Needless to say, we are urging Thomson to fix this problem as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for this service interruption and will fill any orders not processed due to there problems.
Classic Dashboard View
The old, beloved Dashboard view that contained a simple table of Open Positions is coming back after an outpouring of love and support for it. It will be an option and it will supplement the new Dashboard views. Expect it to roll out in about 1 week. Here’s a mock up of what it should look like:

We still like the new view on the Dashboard, it’s pretty sweet, too!
New Site, some growing pains
Welcome to the new 2.0 version of Wall Street Survivor. We hope you like all the new features.
If you were playing on the first day, Thursday May 1st, we apologize for the outtage, but we’re back on track now taking thousands of trades every day.
There will be no weekly prize for the first two days of trading (May 1st and 2nd). Good luck Survivors!
Voltage!
Video feeds are coming to Wall Street Survivor. We’re building a group of video channels to stream for free and we’re calling them Voltage!.
Traders and investing buffs notoriously are glued to the boob tube when the market is open and watch the Money Honey (aka, Maria Bartellomo) on CNBC. Besides entertainment, good video content can give investors trading ideas to make money and often provides insight on the seemingly chaotic market environment on any particular day.
That’s why we want to provide our Survivors with valuable financial and market related video content. Here’s one possible source: Bloomberg TV which is generally not available in U.S. homes via cable or satellite TV service.
The beginning…
Before starting here at Stock Trak, I had been managing I.T. for brokerage firms in Canada for 4 years. The work was great and I was learning bits and pieces about trading while working. My plan was to gain a good enough understanding of the markets and start playing with it myself. Four years later I was still on the sidelines.
When I joined Stock Trak, I figured that my learning curve would probably end since it was only a simulator, was I ever Wrong! Most of my colleagues are experienced traders and were willing to share knowledge over drinks after work. After 3 months of “lessons” with my colleagues and multiple Vodka Sodas I finally took the leap and joined the masses.
I look forward to reaping the rewards of my investments and thank Wall Street Survivor for not only giving me work, but the knowledge to further my investment opportunities. Also a BIG thank you to all my colleagues who had the patience to explain concepts, methods and theories.
New Forums, T-Shirts and Corporate Name to start the new year.
Our new Commuity Server (Survivor forums) was a joint effort from the development and production departments and the outcome was a nice looking place for Survivors, Newbies and Staff, to meet and share ideas about the game. What do you think about the forums?
The new WallStreetSurvivor T-shirts are here, and thanks to our Creative Department, we have a really cool looking shirt. What do you think of the design?
Finally, we have a new Corporate Name, Stock Trak Group, Inc. (BB:STKG), as of last Friday which better reflects our true purpose: building world-class Stock Market simulation software and games.
